Carpet Cleaning: Caring For Your Home While Caring For the Environment

carpet cleaning niagara falls, carpet repair niagara falls, carpet cleaning niagara fallsModern carpet cleaning products take the accumulation of dirt and debris of our lives down the drain. Then, after treatment at the sewage/ wastewater facilities, they are discharged into nearby waterways. Most ingredients in chemical cleaners break down into harmless substances quickly. Others, however, threaten water quality and therefore wildlife.

A geological survey studied contaminants in stream water samples across the country and found persistent detergent metabolites in 69% of streams tested. Sixty-six percent of streams contained disinfectants. By making better choices with our carpet cleaning supplies, we can have a direct effect on the environment. PCS Niagara agrees with you– protecting our waterways is vital. Here’s why, and how, PCS does it in Niagara Falls.

What Are Detergents?

Some chemical properties boost the cleaning power of certain compounds. Detergents create a water-soluble cleansing agent to make dirt more soluble. There are two kinds of detergents with different characteristics. Phosphate detergents are used in detergents to soften hard water and help suspend dirt in water; surfactant detergents are used to enhance the wetting, foaming, dispersing and emulsifying properties of detergents. Detergents that contain phosphates are highly caustic, and surfactant detergents are very toxic. Therefore, using the least amount for the best results is very important in your carpet cleaning.

Dangers Of Detergents To The Environment

Detergents can have poisonous effects in all types of aquatic life if they are present in sufficient quantities, and this includes the biodegradable detergents. On a large scale, detergents are partly responsible for eutrophication of rivers; fish and invertebrates without sufficient oxygen will die by asphyxiation.

Detergents also contaminate groundwater by contributing nutrients (surfactants) and mineral salts such as phosphates, nitrates, ammonium, boron, etc.

PCS Niagara’s Proven Processes Lessen The Stress On The Environment

By using a protocol that focuses on more efficient carpet cleaning instead of stronger chemicals, PCS Niagara is able to use less toxic products. For instance, the 12 Step Healthy Home Cleaning Process has multiple options – based on the soil on YOUR carpets.

  1. Dry soil removal is vacuuming with the best tools, techniques, and dust filters available.   We remove as much of the dry-soil as possible BEFORE we add water for faster, better results with less water and chemicals.
  2. By pre-treating trouble areas before cleaning, the extra time allows a smaller amount of detergents to effectively break up stains.
  3. The eco-friendly pre-spray is applied, immediately working to loosen and dissolve soils, spots, and spills.
  4. Agitation, or elbow grease, maximizes the smaller amount of detergent used. Extra time and effort in this step pay off in the results.
  5. At this point, if requested by our client, they will apply a deodorizer. If you are sensitive to VOCs, you may choose to skip this step.
  6. Furniture will be moved (if requested.)
  7. Rinsing with 190* softened water sanitizes plus removes all loose soil, sand, grit and grime.  PCS Of Niagara uses Hot Water Extraction (HWE), the only cleaning method recommended by Shaw, Mohawk, and other carpet manufacturers for deep clean carpeting.
  8. Wiping down baseboards when requested, will lessen dust and prolong the finish.
  9. Maxim Carpet Protector is RE-APPLIED:  (Recommended but not required)
  10. Furniture is reset and Styrofoam blocks/plastic tabs placed under the legs: Since the carpet is still slightly wet at this point, PCS Niagara will not risk damaging or staining your home furnishings.
  11. With a specialized carpet brush tool, they thoroughly groom your carpet. This process separates the carpet fibers, spreads the Maxim Protector evenly and promotes faster drying times. Again, the extra effort here will improve the results and shorten the wait time.
  12. Using high-capacity air movers, the carpet care professionals will leave your carpets virtually dry by the time they leave.
