Schedule Your Rug Pick-Up Today

Step 1: Pre-Inspection and Pick Up

We will determine as much as we possibly can about the type of rug and inherent qualities that may affect cleaning. We will outline the expected results and cleaning “prescription”. Our company will come to your home to pick up your rug, or you may drop it off at our shop.

DSCN0831Step 2: Dry Soil Removal

Woven rugs, especially hand-knotted rugs, are designed to hide dry soil. A few years ago, the Eureka company did a study and found that a 9 x 12 could hide 87 pounds of dirt! WOW! We use a variety of techniques to “dust” the rugs from the front and back. A machine called a rug duster, special vacuum attachments, and any many other methods are implemented. This is the most important step in cleaning any textile.

Step 3: Pre-Condition

Depending on fiber content and soiling type, the rug will be pre-treated to emulsify
the soils.

Step 4: Pre-Spot and Fringe Preparation

Any potentially difficult spots will be pre-treated with special solutions to increase chances of removal. The fringe is also pre-treated for maximum soil removal.

Step 5: Shampoo

Most rugs are cleaned with an Oriental Rug Shampoo that is especially designed to get maximum cleaning while protecting sensitive natural fibers.

rugwashStep 6: Rinse or Wash

Depending on the type of rug, it will be rinsed with extraction equipment or washed in a wash pit designed especially for Oriental Rugs.

Step 7: Speed Dry

Once the soil is rinsed away, the rug is dried flat or hung to dry in a controlled environment. Proper drying is essential to avoid unnatural shrinkage.

Step 8: Finishing

When the rug is dry, it is combed and finished with soft groomers made for specialty rugs.

Step 9: Post Inspection and Delivery Inspection and Delivery

Our cleaning specialist will give the rug a final inspection and release it for pick-up or delivery. Your rug will be wrapped in brown craft paper to protect it from dust and environmental soils until it is picked up or delivered. Upon delivery, we will lay the rug for you.

Our Work

How to Care for your Oriental Rug

Rotation – To ensure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on the traffic, the rotation may vary from six months to two years.

Vacuuming – Oriental rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar! Use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.

Padding – A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear, and slippage.

Spot and Spill Procedures – Make sure that you safely and immediately clean up spots and spills before they set:

  1. First, soak up the excess liquid by blotting with a clean absorbent material. Do not brush or rub the stain
  2. Then, spot-clean with a mild detergent-white vinegar-water solution. Do not over wet.
  3. Rinse area thoroughly with water and a small amount of vinegar. Avoid wetting the rug’s backing
  4. Blot dry until most of the moisture has been absorbed
  5. Allow to air dry. A fan or cool hair dryer can be used to hasten the drying process.
  6. For stains that do not come out using these methods, call for expert advice from one of our cleaning specialists.

The importance of properly vacuuming your rugs

What you need to know about Moths, Bugs and Rugs

It may be hard to believe but wool rugs are made to last hundreds of years and in today’s industry a rug isn’t considered an “antique” unless it was created before 1900. When your wool rugs are properly cared for they will last a lifetime.

What happens to your wool carpets lifespan when it is introduced to the wrong conditions and bugs? It’s lifespan is cut severely short, sometimes down to under a single year. Carpet beetles, moths, other bugs can eat way your carpet fibers in a matter of months.

In-home area rug cleaning uses our truck-mount, hot-water extraction system to clean surface level soil and stains from your area rug, without needing to be moved from its place in your home! This option is convenient, easy, and provides a great result on lightly soiled rugs. (Note: In some circumstances, in-home rug cleaning may not be recommended or may not be possible. Heavily soiled or contaminated rugs cannot be cleaned in-home.)

In-shop area rug cleaning provides the deepest, most thorough clean possible. Instead of a surface clean, your rug will be given a full spa treatment. We use our tumble-duster to remove built up, dry soil before we fully immerse your rug for deep-cleaning. We are able to use more intensive methods and products. Our temperature controlled drying room will ensure that your rug dries completely, evenly, and correctly. This process will guarantee results, but your rug will be with us for two weeks; please let our office staff know if you require expedited service.

In-home rug cleaning usually takes 1-2 hours, though the length of your appointment will ultimately depend on the size of the rug(s), the condition, and the total scale of work ordered.

When scheduling, our office team will be able to provide a rough estimate for the appointment’s duration. Feel free to ask!

Our turn around time for area rugs cleaned in our shop is typically two (2) weeks. This time period may vary depending on the current volume of rugs in the queue, specialty services such as repair, as well as considerations unique to your rug’s needs. Please inform our office staff during drop-off if you have any time-sensitive requirements for your rug, and we will do our best to accommodate.

While your rug is at our shop, we will remove dry soil using our tumble duster before we provide a full-immersion cleaning for your rug. Soil will be safely removed using a variety of tools and products. Once the rug is cleaned, it will be hung or laid out in our temperature controlled drying room. If the rug requires multiple cleans during its stay at the Rug Spa, we will do so during this time.

Depending on the condition of your rug, the level of soil, and special considerations (dye-bleed risk, urine contamination, etc), your rug may have a longer stay with us. This extra time allows us to provide the best results. We appreciate our clients’ understanding!

Yes. We use professional odor-neutralizing treatments designed specifically for pet urine in area rugs. Our process targets odor sources, not just surface smells.

Yes. We specialize in pet stain and odor removal, including urine accidents. Our professional treatments address the source of odor and break down odor-causing bacteria rather than masking smells, helping restore freshness to your carpet. By flushing out contaminants, you can rest assured that your carpet is clean, sanitary, and safe for your family.

While no company can guarantee removal of every stain, we will do our best, using our advanced techniques and decades of experience to achieve the best possible results. In some circumstances, a spill or a pet accident may have caused permanent fiber/colour damage to the carpet that cannot be removed with cleaning. In these circumstances, we will alert the client and offer guidance on the best way to move forward.

There are many factors that could influence the decision that a rug must be cleaned in shop.

  • Your rug has fugitive/loose dyes.
    • Why this matters: Dye bleed/fugitive dyes may migrate when wet – this could permanent dye/stain your flooring.
  • Your rug has organic contamination (urine, feces, etc) or heavy soiling.
    • Why this matters: Organic contamination requires flushing and enzyme treatments, which often cannot be done properly to an area rug while on site. Also, heavy soiling requires more intensive, restorative cleaning, which cannot be done in home.
  • Your rug is placed on a hardwood floor, or another type of flooring susceptible to water damage.
    • Why this matters: Some rugs (particularly natural fibers) retain more water than others; this may cause water damage to some types of flooring.
  • Your rug is a specialty fiber.
    • Why this matters: Some fibers require particular products, tools, and techniques to clean properly, while other fibers need to be dried in controlled environments to prevent yellowing/browning.

There are other possible circumstances that may require a rug to be cleaned at our shop, but these are the most common reasons.

Professional equipment provides deeper cleaning, stronger extraction, and faster drying than rental machines. Our technicians have decades of experience and have the knowledge to treat stains and fabrics safely, reducing the risk of accidental damage.
